Gloucestershire County entered two teams of five into the NSRA Inter-County Winter Lightweight Sport Rifle (LSR) League for the first time in over five years in the 2018/19 season. The top thirty shooters from our internal Gloucestershire Winter and Summer LSR Leagues were canvassed for entries, and once other shooting and personal commitments were taken into account we had just ten 'volunteers' willing to submit themselves to the rigours of County Class competition. Individual starting averages ranged from 189.00 ex 200 to 174.57 ex 200 with Gloucestershire 'A' entering a Team average of 932.86 ex 1000 and Gloucestershire 'B' 908.00 ex 1000. At this level we found ourselves in Division 3 and Division 4 respectively - which is in the bottom half of the League given that Sussex 'A' won Division 1 with a 972.9 average and Yorkshire 'A' won Division 2 with a 967.1 average.
Final positions for our two LSR squads to the Inter County Winter LSR League:
Result! Gloucestershire County 'B' cleaned up in Division 4. Shot ten, won ten. Can't say fairer than that. Embarrassingly, the squad average was four points up on that for our 'A' Team, but with a mid-table position in Division 3 Gloucestershire County 'A' did OK and were well off the lead regardless of squad composition. It is truly tough at the top, and frankly insane at the top of Division 1...
